Joining 2 sheets of veneer at the ends to make a longer length..........
Q.Is it possible to match 2 sheets of veneer end to end to make a longer length, without seeing the seam where the veneer is joined?
Re: “Can you hide the seam on a veneer joint?” , the short answer is “No” . On the other hand, if you use consecutive sheets of veneer, you can match the wood grains at the joint and this makes the seam less noticeable. The veneer joint is not hidden, but it is pleasing to the eye.
The majority of our standard sheets of 4’ x 8’ veneer are made using consecutive slices of veneer from the same log. The consecutive sheets match each other. You can cut the 4’ x 8’ sheet lengthwise, then rotate one of the pieces 180 degrees and match the 2 sheets at the ends. The veneer joint is not hidden, but the matched grains conceal the veneer joint to some extent.
