Veneering the interior surface an exterior door. Very good chance of successfully veneering the interior surface of an exterior door, but not a certainty.

I have a full light 40" Insulated Steel Door, Outside will be painted. I would like to veneer the inside to match my interior Knotty Alder Doors and cabinets. Would your adhesive backed veneers work for this purpose? or would the temperature change between inside/outside affect the adhesive/veneer? Thanks in advance. Cyndi

Cyndi,

The short answer is “I don’t know”.But – I think your chances of successfully veneering the interior side of the door are pretty good, if not very good. For this, I suggest that you use the peel and stick 2 ply veneer.Check my website for instructions on how to prep the door surface. If your door surface is painted and clean, your prep work will probably be minimal. You should probably scuff sand the surface a little to help the bonding.

If things don’t work out, you can always remove the peel and stick veneer, clean the door surface up, and paint it.Removal of a peel and stick veneer can be challenging. You would probably need to score the veneer and use a harsh solvent such as xylene to attack the peel and stick adhesive. You would definitely need to work outdoors when doing this, to avoid the fumes.

All in all, if I were you, I would give it a try.
